After a four month break from painting, this superb new artwork from the very popular Silence is Watson's second to be completed this year. A deserted beach provides the young military captains relaxing off-duty, solitude and privacy in this charming and intimate painting.
A powerful centre point of the artwork is the soldier's boots, pointing toward each other, mirror image and tantalisingly close to touching. Watson's artworks from the Silence series, which explore the theme of intimate mate-ship, are amongst the most celebrated and sought after from his 39 year international career.
Mid afternoon sunlight bathes the scene, casting dramatic shadows. A diagonal line of wind-swept clouds offer a counter balance, valuable to the composition and adding a heightened sense of drama to this exquisitely painted new artwork.
"I have been a proud collector of Ross' paintings for many years. His art is astounding in its beauty, emotion, and reverence for our humanity and the world we live in. His attention to the smallest details, and use of light, dark and colour, rivals art's greatest masters."
James J. O'Donnell, Patron, art collector, NYC
