Description

A distinguishing feature of this painting is the engagement of Alexis with the viewer, which the artist rarely depicts.  Seemingly startled mid-way through removing his rugby shirt, he appears as a dream like figure, who's sultry and sensual expression is very alluring.

Whilst in London, the artist returned to observe and photograph the formally dressed soldiers of the Queen's Guard.

Closely behind Alexis, and rendered in exquisitely fine detail, stands a handsome Kings Trooper. United by forms of coloured piping, the uniforms dramatically contrast the casual and formal. The expressions of their respective faces perfectly conveying an informal and formal attitude.

A slither of a mysterious and dark doorway is an important visual balance to the composition and deftly places the King's Trooper in his secluded respite in the detailed stone portico which forms the backdrop of the painting.
