In this very striking and intriguing painting, Watson has bought together elements captured during his travels in Europe.
This is the first full frontal nude Watson has painted of Bel Ami's Dolph Lambert, who appears comfortable with the attention of the Carabinieri. He stands with a downcast gaze and is strangely incongruous to the high formality of the uniformed policemen, who's stance away from the viewer obscures his identity.
The strong contrast in light from the foreground to the background is a subtle feature providing an unusual depth to the picture plane in this painting.
Even the inanimate aeroplane, which the artist saw parked at Ibiza's airport, is draped in fabric reinforcing the scenes overall sense of intrigue.
