Description

Inspired by Watson's travels in Italy this re-imagined landscape of a surfer in the hills above Florence is a dramatically detailed scene.  The model, Nathan Waudby who has modeled for Watson a number of times since he was first painted by Watson 11 years ago, is holding a brightly coloured surfboard.  Depicted in front of a bill board featuring a section of one of Caravaggio's dramatic paintings which the Watson saw in Florence promoting the Uffizi Gallery.  Unique to Watson's work is the highly detailed view of the Duomo and other roof tops of Florence.  The added figures of the policemen in ceremonial uniforms creates a sense of a formality in an otherwise informal setting.

"I have been a proud collector of Ross' paintings for many years. His art is astounding in its beauty, emotion, and reverence for our humanity and the world we live in. His attention to the smallest details, and use of light, dark and colour, rivals art's greatest masters."
