Description

This fine and intimate painting features two actors resting in period attire. Diffused light saturates the tranquil coastal scene. Watson was inspired by watching the making of the film, Always Afternoon, which was set during the 1st World War in Australia.

Rather than painting what he saw being filmed, the artist was captivated by the actors and extras who, appearing lost in their own world's, relaxed off set between film takes.

The film was was directed by the artist's life-long friend, David Stevens, and paintings from the series are amongst Watson's most popular and sought after.
