A simple and charming vignette of two soldiers wearing the uniform of the legendary Australian Light Horsemen. Bathed in the late afternoon sun light, the soldiers are depicted with relaxed expressions, sitting back to back on an ocean headland.
The strong bond between soldiers is evident in the relaxed intimacy captivated in this tender moment and is a recurrent theme running through the Silence series of paintings.
The models, Jamieson Caldwell and Andrew Vance have both become close friends with Watson and appeared in his artworks over the past decade. Watson was recently given access to a collector's military uniforms which allowed him to capture fresh imagery to use in the continuation of paintings from this very popular series.
"I have been a proud collector of Ross' paintings for many years. His art is astounding in its beauty, emotion, and reverence for our humanity and the world we live in. His attention to the smallest details, and use of light, dark and colour, rivals art's greatest masters."
James J. O'Donnell, Patron, art collector, NYC
