A powerfully charged atmosphere embodies this breathtaking and exquisitely detailed new painting featuring the New York model Uriah. Arguably one of Watson’s most significant recent artworks when viewed in context of recent political events.
The painting’s concept led from the artist's popular series Censored Nudes, which saw the models enveloped in oversize bubbles - a metaphor for the filters of censorship applied by social media to painted nudes.
The fiery sunset surrounding his naked figure within the glassy bubble is erotically charged. Uriah anchors the bubble. Calm, though alert, determined and dignified.
“I wanted for this painting of Uriah to celebrate the male nude, along with gay and black pride.” Watson said.
