Description

Inspired by watching the making of the film, Always Afternoon, this fine painting features two soldiers resting on a headland. Set during the 1st World War in Australia, the film was directed by David Stevens.

The late afternoon sunlight saturates the tranquil scene. Rather than painting what he saw being filmed, Watson was captivated by the actors and extras who, appearing lost in their own world's, relaxed off set.
